Antony Kalugin - composer, musician, arranger, producer born 11 Feb 1981 in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
Main projects: "Sunchild", "Karfagen" and "Hoggwash"
Education: Architect - designer - In 1994 while still studying at school, Antony decided he wanted to become a professional musician and gathered Karfagen. In 1997 he entered architectural university, but there Antony continued to walk the musical road with single-minded determination. And in 1998 duly recorded his first studio album “Night Flight”. In Late 2001 he recorded his first fully electronic album " The Water "(new age, ambient, art - rock). Then from 2003 / 2006 over 30 albums of new age and enigmatic music was recorded and released. This being a commercial decision that gave Antony the golden opportunity to become a full time professional musician. It was a time of huge learning – the tools of his trade and opening new horizons. In 2005 Antony had met Will Mackie of Caerllysi Music via the Internet, who believed that his music was worthy of being released into the "big" world. This vote of confidence inspired him to kick on musically, and in late 2005 the first Karfagen album "Continium" was recorded, and duly released on Unicorn Digital (Canada) on 1st of July 2006. Unicorn released the follow up album “The Space Between Us” also on his birthday in February 2007. Both albums were acclaimed by listeners throughout the world, heralding the first Ukrainian band to perform art - rock, and release albums worldwide. The 15th October 2007 - date was another milestone which saw the release of Hoggwash "The Last Horizon’. It was major step forward -a melodic progressive symphony rock – collaboration between two great friends and musicians Will Mackie and Antony Kalugin. A Very important album that really enriched the colours of modern prog rock. Also it was the first album for Antony on the Caerllysi Music label, which from that moment became his spiritual home dedicated to his musical projects. On to 31 March 2008 – and his project Sunchild " The Gnomon " was let loose by Caerllysi, a Great Expansive concept musical journey. 2 cds of colossus standing! One of the main jewels from the album is the 27 min. track "Sleepwalker" highlighting the huge potential and professionalism of the band. March 2009 saw the second Sunchild album "The Invisible Line'" appear pleasing the prog rock fans far and wide. Both Sunchild albums were once more highly acclaimed. And the band performed for the first time overseas on Crescendo fest (France) in 2009. Later in 2009 the earlier Karfagen albums were re-released on Caerllysi Music as a double cd "The Key to Perception" with a bonus of over 70 minutes of previously unreleased material. 17th May 2010 and the release of Karfagen 3rd album "Solitary Sandpiper Journey" which can be described as an art - rock fairy tale that maximises the skill and talent of the author. It’s a very emotive album with the finale "Mystery'" as a stunning highlight. All albums were created and recorded in Ukraine, Kharkiv. Produced by A. Kalugin & W. Mackie. At the moment Antony still lives in the Ukraine, continuing to create and push the boundaries of modern progressive art rock music.
